29-Year-Old PitcherSP
Colorado Rockies
2026 Fantasy Outlook
After making 30 starts as arguably the Rockies' most effective starter in 2024, Feltner took the ball only six times for Colorado in 2025. That was due mostly to back and shoulder problems for the right-hander, though the Rockies optioned Feltner to Triple-A Albuquerque around midseason after he had recovered from the back issue. Feltner has shown an ability to suppress hard contact, and that remained the case during his abbreviated time with the big club in 2025 with a 4.1 percent barrel rate and 35.7 percent hard-hit rate. He's never had even a 20 percent strikeout rate, however, and Feltner has, unsurprisingly, been unable to tame Coors Field, sporting a career 5.87 ERA and 1.51 WHIP at home. Feltner is streamable at times on the road and he has enough ability that he'd be interesting if traded to another team, but the 29-year-old currently has too much working against him to be a steady fantasy contributor. Feltner allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Tuesday.
Analysis
Feltner fell behind quickly, giving up a homer to Pete Crow-Armstrong to begin the bottom of the first inning. He yielded another run in the second but kept Chicago off the scoreboard thereafter. Feltner's offense got him three runs and the lead in the top of the fourth frame, but the right-hander was pulled with two outs in the bottom of the inning having thrown 104 pitches. That was easily a season-high mark -- Feltner had previously topped out at 87 pitches in a start against the Dodgers on April 18. Part of the reason for the veteran hurler's elevated pitch count was that the Cubs had trouble putting the ball in play against him, as Chicago batters swung and missed 13 times and fouled off 21 pitches, though that at least helped him to a season-best seven punchouts. Feltner will carry a 5.05 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 33:16 K:BB through 41 innings into his next start, which is lined up to come at home versus Boston.

Stat Review
How does Ryan Feltner compare to other starting pitchers?
This section compares his stats with all starting pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 120 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 120 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
  • K/BB
    Strikeout to walk ratio.
  • K/9
    Average strikeouts per nine innings.
  • BB/9
    Average walks per nine innings.
  • HR/9
Average home runs allowed per nine innings.
  • Fastball
    Average fastball velocity.
  • ERA
Earned run average. The average earned runs allowed per nine innings.
  • WHIP
Walks plus hits per inning pitched.
  • BABIP
Batting average on balls in play. Measures how many balls in play against a pitcher go for hits.
  • GB/FB
Groundball to flyball ratio. The higher the number, the more likely a pitcher is to induce groundballs.
  • Left On Base
The percentage of base runners that a pitcher strands on base over the course of a season.
  • Exit Velocity
The speed of the baseball as it comes off the bat, immediately after a batter makes contact.
  • Barrels/BBE
The percentage of batted ball events resulting in a Barrel. A Barrel is a batted ball with similar exit velocity and launch angle to past ones that led to a minimum .500 batting average and 1.500 slugging percentage.
  • Spin Rate
Spin Rate is the rate of spin on a baseball after it is released. It is measured in revolutions per minute (rpm).
  • Balls Hit 95+ MPH
The percentage of batted balls hit that met or exceeded the 95 MPH threshold.
  • Swinging Strike
The percentage of pitches that result in a swing and a miss.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
Feltner established new major league bests with 30 starts and 162.1 innings. Predictably, his home 5.10 ERA was higher than his 3.93 road mark. However, his 3.84 xFIP at Coors was lower than his 4.47 away mark. The disparities between actual and expected splits reflect variance, but they also show the effect of Coors Field inflating runs by 40 percent. Feltner's home and road strikeout rate both round to 20 percent. His road walk rate was a tick higher, but the altitude inflated Feltner's HR/FB and BABIP. Many will suggest streaming Feltner for road affairs, but there are numerous examples of variance causing that to backfire. Barring an unexpected spike in strikeouts, it's best to follow this credo. Rule No. 1, avoid Rockies pitchers. Rule No. 2, if tempted to draft a Rockies pitcher, see Rule No. 1.
Feltner made half as many starts (10) in 2023 compared to the prior season, but his 5.82 ERA looked much the same. The 27-year-old has an 18.9 percent strikeout rate and 13.9 percent walk rate, but a 0.4 HR/9 helped lead to an optimistic 4.17 FIP. He naturally pitched better away from Coors Field (8.40 home ERA vs. 4.45 road ERA), but the limited sample size makes it difficult to draw any major conclusions. Feltner's 6.06 ERA through 32 big-league outings doesn't provide much for fantasy managers to get excited about, and he's hardly guaranteed a rotation spot to open 2024.
Feltner has held up pretty well in the launching pads of the Pacific Coast League, posting a 3.83 ERA and 60:18 K:BB over 51.2 innings covering 11 starts there last season. That can often be a sign that a pitcher is ready for the challenge of the big leagues, but so far things haven't translated with Feltner holding a 6.16 ERA over 22 appearances (21 starts). The 26-year-old has a solid repertoire with two mid-90s fastballs (he started using his sinker more as the season went along) and a nice slider. Outside of German Marquez, he's the Rockies pitcher with arguably the most upside. That said, Feltner might be on the outside looking in for a rotation spot in large part because he has options, and the built-in disadvantage of Coors Field might be too much to overcome.

Set to start Tuesday

June 19, 2022
Feltner will start Tuesday against the Marlins, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com.
Analysis
Feltner will stay in the rotation following the move of Austin Gomber to the bullpen and should make his sixth start of the campaign Tuesday. The 2018 fourth-round pick owns a 4.85 ERA and a 29:7 K:BB across 26 innings in 2022, but he is trending in the right direction after allowing two or fewer runs in three of his last four outings.
