2026 Fantasy Outlook
Ryan had Tommy John surgery Aug. 25, 2024, and he will reportedly have a normal buildup during 2026 spring training. A former position player, Ryan is now 27 and has just four career big-league starts, but his ceiling is higher than the typical righty his age with no MLB track record. He throws five pitches, headlined by a pair of plus breaking balls and pair of mid-90s fastballs. Ryan had a 61.1 percent groundball rate in 24.1 minor-league innings in 2024 and a 50 percent groundball rate in 20.1 innings in the majors, and he may rely more on generating weak contact than racking up big strikeout totals. There's a chance he eventually settles in as an over-qualified reliever, given the Dodgers' perpetual pitching depth, but Ryan's ceiling is too high for them to pull the plug on him as a starter just yet. He'll almost certainly open the year in the Triple-A rotation, potentially getting slow-played early in the year so that he's an option to make starts in the majors as needed during the summer months. Doesn't make Opening Day roster
The Dodgers optioned Ryan to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Analysis
Ryan spent the entire 2025 season recovering from Tommy John surgery and entered spring training with an outside shot at making the Dodgers' Opening Day roster. He appeared in four Cactus League games for the Dodgers and posted a 1.86 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB across 9.2 innings. It was a strong camp for Ryan, but even with Blake Snell (shoulder) expected to start the season on the 15-day injured list, the Dodgers are being mindful of the former's workload and will ease him back in the minors first, per Jack Harris of the California Post. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Ryan in some major-league games in 2026.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Ryan would be a very buzzy prospect for 2025 had he not needed Tommy John surgery Aug. 25 after an impressive first few starts in the big-league rotation. A converted infielder who first started pitching professionally in 2022, Ryan has high-end stuff, boasting a 96-mph four-seamer, plus slider and plus curveball. He's behind on the finer points of pitching, and his surgery is set to cost him the entire 2025 season. It won't be until at least 2027 that he attempts to top his career-high 104.1 innings from 2023. When he returns to game action in 2026, he'll already be 27.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Set to start Monday?
Ryan could be an option to start Monday against the Giants, reports Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.
Analysis
A report from Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic prior to the All-Star break indicated Ryan would be called up early in the second half, and the Dodgers have yet to officially announce a starter for Monday's contest. The 25-year-old right-hander has pitched well in brief action for Triple-A Oklahoma City this year with a 2.76 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB over 16.1 innings after he missed the start of the campaign due to shoulder fatigue, and he may be on the cusp of his major-league debut.
