2026 Fantasy Outlook
Lowder impressed with Cincinnati down the stretch in 2024, but injuries prevented him from making a single big-league appearance in 2025. While rehabbing from a forearm injury, Lowder suffered a significant oblique strain, which cost him most of the season. After a lone Triple-A appearance in September, Lowder underwent an MRI on his shoulder that came back negative. It was a troubling year up and down the kinetic chain, but Lowder was able to make up for lost time a bit in the Arizona Fall League, pitching nine innings with an 8:1 K:BB across four starts. While the right-hander lacks an overpowering fastball, he throws four distinct pitches, keeping hitters off balance. The Reds selected Lowder with the seventh overall pick in 2023 and gave him a $5.7 million signing bonus, so they are heavily invested. Lowder (2-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Giants, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over 6.2 innings.
Analysis
Lowder ran into trouble in the second inning, allowing three straight baserunners, capped by a two-run double from Daniel Susac, but Lowder settled in well after that, tossing four straight scoreless frames. The 24-year-old found himself running into traffic again in the seventh, when he exited with runners at the corners, and one inherited runner later came around to score. Despite the late blemish, Lowder delivered another strong outing and has now posted quality starts in two of his last three appearances. The Reds didn't seem to want to bring Lowder up after just one start at Triple-A, but injuries had ravaged the rotation by late August and they decided to go with it. Impressively, he more than held his own after being thrown into the deep end, pitching to a 1.17 ERA over six starts in the major leagues. Lowder, the seventh overall pick in 2023, began his first professional season at High-A Daytona before quickly advancing to Double-A Chattanooga. While it wasn't all luck by any means, the right-hander was quite fortunate during his in the majors and outperformed his underlying metrics. Lowder has four pitches and a bright future, but Cincinnati is likely hoping it can afford him additional time in the minor leagues refine his craft before giving him an extended look in the big-league rotation.
