2026 Fantasy Outlook
Detmers moved to the bullpen in 2025 and enjoyed a bounce-back campaign, posting a 3.96 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 80:25 K:BB over 61 relief appearances (63.2 innings) before a bout of left elbow inflammation ended his season. Tests showed no signs of structural damage, setting Detmers up for a normal winter. Prior to the injury, he posted a career-high 30.1 K%, coinciding with a jump in velocity while working in shorter spurts. Incredibly, he cut his home-run rate from 1.85 HR/9 to 0.85 HR/9. His 3.12 FIP was by far the best of his career. While some teams would be reluctant to mess with a good thing, the Angels are planning to move Detmers back into the starting rotation in 2026. That comes with the risk of injury, eventual fatigue and performance giveback, but he showed flashes as a starter early in his career and the Angels believe he is a different pitcher at this stage, one capable of making a difference in a starting role. Tagged with loss Friday
Detmers (3-6) was charged with the loss Friday against the Red Sox after allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks across five innings, striking out five.
Analysis
Detmers has struck out at least five in back-to-back games for the first time since doing so in six consecutive starts between May 13 and June 10, but there isn't much more to highlight from this outing. He's now given up at least five runs in two of his last three starts, and the 26-year-old southpaw has been trending in the wrong direction of late. Still, Detmers owns a 3.19 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in six starts since the beginning of June, and he'll aim to bounce back when he takes the ball in his next start against the Rangers on the road.

It feels like Detmers has been around forever, but the left-hander is still just 25 years old entering the 2025 season. He went 3-0 with two earned runs allowed over 17.2 innings in his first three starts last season, but then went 0-6 with an 8.93 ERA over his next eight to earn a trip back to Triple-A. Home runs doomed his return in September, as he served up eight homers in 24.1 innings down the stretch to push him up to an ugly 6.70 ERA for the season. Both lefties and righties slugged over .500 against Detmers last season. He still has multiple minor-league options remaining and will have to earn his spot with the Angels in spring training. Detmers' 26.8 percent strikeout rate over the past two seasons -- 16th among pitchers that have totaled 230 combined innings in that span -- and the fact that he has a no-hitter under his belt offer a shred of hope that the 2020 first-round pick could turn a corner.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Angels receiving interest
The Angels are receiving trade interest for Detmers, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Analysis
The Angels haven't given any indication that they're open to trading Detmers, and Nightengale even reports that the club is more inclined to hang on to the 26-year-old. It's easy to see why he's generating interest, though. The southpaw owns a career-best 3.68 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP and 100:24 K:BB through 88 innings over 15 starts this season.
