2026 Fantasy Outlook
Schultz was shut down in September with patellar tendinitis in his right knee, which was reportedly an issue for him throughout his disappointing 2025 campaign. The 6-foot-10 southpaw entered 2025 as a consensus top 30 prospect, but after he logged a 9.5 K-BB% and 1.67 WHIP in 73 innings across Double-A and Triple-A, there will be more wide-ranging valuations on Schultz this offseason. He has been handled carefully by the White Sox since they drafted him No. 26 overall out of high school in 2022. He dealt with a flexor strain in 2023 and has only thrown five-plus innings in 10 of his 50 pro starts -- all 10 of which came last year at Double-A. Schultz's fastball and slider are 70-grade pitches when he's on, and it's dangerous to give up on toolsy lefty starters when they're only 22. He made five starts at Triple-A and will surely return there to start 2026. If he's healthy and pounding the zone this spring, Schultz's value will shoot back up. Read Past Outlooks
Stumbles vs. Angels
Schultz (2-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Angels, allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out three.
Analysis
Five of the runs charged to Schultz came in the second inning, when the Angels strung together four straight two-out hits, highlighted by a Travis d'Arnaud three-run homer. It's the first rough outing of the season for Schultz, who had allowed just three runs over 17 innings in his previous three starts. The left-hander's ERA now sits at 4.68 through his first five starts (25 innings) with a 1.32 WHIP and 23:16 K:BB. Schultz will look to get back on track his next time out, currently scheduled to come at home next week against the Royals.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Unfortunately, we didn't learn much about Schultz in 2024, despite the fact he was healthy all season. He never threw more than four innings or 67 pitches in a start, so he never got to face a batter a third time. The 6-foot-9 southpaw logged 89.1 innings across High-A and Double-A after logging 27 innings and averaging fewer than three innings per start at Single-A in 2023. His fastball/slider combo is elite, and same-handed batters registered a .449 OPS against him. Schultz's decent changeup is a clear third pitch, and righties did a bit better against him with a .588 OPS, so refining that changeup while building his workload will be the points of emphasis going forward. Despite Chicago's delicate handling of Schultz last year, he should be assigned to Triple-A for his age-21 season after putting up a 1.48 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 58.5 percent groundball rate in 61 innings at Double-A. He may generate buzz early in spring training if he gets to pitch in big-league camp.
