2026 Fantasy Outlook
Kelly deploys a vast six-pitch arsenal that is headlined by a sweeper that he tosses half the time. Unfortunately, the pitch wasn't very effective in 2025, as he allowed a .277 batting average and .457 slugging percentage when throwing it. Kelly's sweeper also produced the 2nd-worst whiff rate in the league for that pitch type (minimum of 300 pitches) at 20.6 percent. The 33-year-old journeyman got some work in high-leverage scenarios last season - he picked up two saves and seven holds across a career-high 42 appearances for the A's - but his outlook for the 2026 campaign doesn't look very promising. Kelly's 6.1 K-BB percentage in 2025 was one of the worst marks among relief pitchers, while his 10.2 percent walk rate for his career doesn't bode well for continued high-leverage opportunities. Coming off a 2025 season in which he posted a 3.18 ERA and 1.29 WHIP across 39.2 innings, Kelly projects to make the 2026 Opening Day roster and could factor into high-leverage opportunities in an Athletics bullpen expected to operate with a closer-by-committee approach.
