2026 Fantasy Outlook
Schuemann has value in the deepest of AL-Only leagues on a bench because he qualifies at three positions on draft day. Schuemann is a discplined hitter whose best chance to reach base in 2025 was by drawing a walk, which he did 10.3% of the time over his 213 plate appearances. However, despite the discipline and high contact rate, he hit .197 on the season with a .295 OBP. That's tough to do, but his lack of bat speed and power make it difficult for him to hit the ball with authority so he instead attempts to employ the Willie Keeler approach of hitting it were they ain't. Unfortunately, 28 of his 36 hits were singles and that dog just isn't going to hunt on anything but a 12-team AL Only league roster with a bench and injuries. The 29-year-old has been up with the Yankees since April 28 following his call-up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but it wasn't until May 7 that he made his first start. Though Schuemann continued to see scarce opportunities over his first two months with the big club, he's finally begun gaining some traction in the outfield in July while the Yankees navigate the absences of Aaron Judge (rib) and Giancarlo Stanton (calf). Schuemann will stick in the starting nine for the fifth time in six games after going 3-for-9 with a home run and two walks through his first four contests of the month.

Schuemann made his big-league debut in 2024 with the A's and posted a .220/.311/.308 slash line with seven home runs and 14 steals in 133 games. He saw most of his playing time at shortstop -- where he accrued minus-one Defensive Runs Saved and plus-two Outs Above Average -- but also made 27 appearances at third base and 10 in the outfield. His 10.6 percent walk rate was consistent with the strong patience he showed in the minors, and a 25.6 percent strikeout was respectable. Schuemann could open 2025 with a regular spot in the lineup -- depending on the Athletics' offseason additions -- but he's likely better suited for a utility role. He could push for 20 stolen bases with enough plate appearances but otherwise isn't likely to be a significant fantasy contributor.
