Elects free agency
Garcia elected to become a free agent Monday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Garcia passed through waivers unclaimed after being removed from the Twins' 40-man roster. Rather than accept an outright assignment, the veteran reliever is now a free agent and can seek employment elsewhere.

After playing for four different teams in his previous four seasons, Garcia signed a 2-year deal with San Diego and primarily served in a setup capacity. He was especially valuable in fantasy leagues that count holds, notching 20 (T-6th in the NL) during his age-35 season while also contributing four wins and three saves. The right-hander maintained above-average strikeout and walk rates while inducing plenty of ground balls with his 99 mph sinker. His slider (57% whiff rate) and spitter (40%) were fantastic put-away pitches and he slightly increased his usage of both. Garcia is likely third in San Diego's hierarchy for saves behind Josh Hader and Robert Suarez, but expect plenty of holds again in 2023 with the occasional save chance.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Getting heavy interest
The Angels are receiving heavy interest from teams looking to acquire Garcia, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Analysis
The Red Sox, Royals and Yankees are among the teams involved. The veteran right-hander joined the Halos on a one-year contract during the offseason and has a 3.80 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 40:14 K:BB across 42.2 innings this year. The Angels have already offloaded closer Carlos Estevez, so it seems like a matter of when, not if, a rental like Garcia is also dealt.
