2026 Fantasy Outlook
Gilbert led MLB with 208.2 innings during the 2024 campaign but was limited to 131 frames in 2025 due to a flexor strain, which sidelined him for all of May and half of June. The right-hander saw his WHIP rise from 0.89 in 2024 to 1.03 last season, but his ERA remained fairly steady at 3.44 while he improved his strikeout rate nearly five points to 32.3 percent. He lost a tick on his fastball (95.5 mph) but relied more on his slider, which he utilized at a career-high clip (35.3 percent) despite the fact opponents slugged .510 against the latter pitch. Gilbert also upped the usage of his splitter to 19.3 percent, which was his most dominant offering with a .119 opponent batting average and 50.4 percent whiff rate. Despite the time missed in 2025, durability isn't a major concern for Gilbert, as he topped 180 frames in each of the previous three seasons. Having pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park as a home stadium is certainly a plus, but he struggled on the road in 2025 with a 4.74 ERA. Gilbert isn't quite at the ace level of pitcher, but he is a solid bet to be a reliable top-end starter again in 2026. Read Past Outlooks
Yields five runs in loss
Gilbert (0-1) took the loss against the Yankees on Tuesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings.
Analysis
Gilbert retired the first two batters he faced Tuesday, but three straight Yankees hits resulted in a pair of first-inning runs. The right-hander proceeded through the next four frames without falling further behind, but he imploded in the sixth, allowing four of the five batters he faced in that inning to reach base (on two doubles, a single and a walk) before being pulled. Overall, Gilbert threw just 54 of 95 pitches for strikes, and his three walks tied the most he recorded in any game last season. Gilbert did rack up 14 whiffs and now has 13 punchouts across 10.2 innings on the campaign, but he's also carrying a 6.75 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through two starts.

Gilbert is Exhibit A for changing the wins category to innings pitched. He led MLB with 208.2 frames, but despite a top five xFIP and SIERA, his nine wins matched the totals of James Paxton, Cole Sands and Jared Koenig. Gilbert's control remains his primary asset, with a 4.6 percent walk rate checking in as the fifth best among qualified pitchers last season. He was both lucky and unlucky with a fortunate .236 BABIP and snake bit 69.5 percent left on base mark. Gilbert throws six pitches, with a four-seam fastball and slider leading the way in both quality and quantity. In today's landscape where five-and-fly is a solid outing, Gilbert logged 26 of 33 starts of at least six stanzas. Durability is an ally, with his 97 starts and 585 innings since 2022 both ranking as fourth most in MLB. Gilbert should be in play for those wanting an ace.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Interested in extension
After the Mariners signed Cal Raleigh to a six-year, $105 million extension in late March, Gilbert said the organization "knows where I stand" and that he would "love to finish his career [in Seattle]," reports Adam Jude of The Seattle Times.
Analysis
The right-hander is currently on the injured list due to an elbow strain he suffered in late April, but he's throwing bullpen sessions and may not be far off from beginning a rehab assignment. The Mariners haven't traditionally been big spenders, but the club has shown a willingness to retain core pieces like Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez and Luis Castillo. Gilbert has two more years of arbitration eligibility, so there likely won't be a rush to work out a deal in the near future.
