Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Isbel was a 409 plate appearance unit last season for a feeble Kansas City outfield who combined to hit 39 homers in 2025. Isbel has just 23 career homers in just over 1500 plate appearances, but his role on the team is defined by his elite defensive range as a centerfielder due more to great reads and first steps than elite footspeed. Isbel is a bottom of the lineup hitter that does not hit for power or run much on a club which struggles to generate offense from the bottom half of the lineup. His fantasy value is wholly tied into batted ball luck and keeping his batting average above water because he offers little else in fantasy production if that is not going well. He's a 5th outfielder in AL-Only leagues, but you need to have enough offense on your roster to absorb covering up the lack of production. Read Past Outlooks
Grade 3 plantar fasciitis tear
Isbel has been diagnosed with a Grade 3 tear of a portion of his left plantar fasciitis.
Analysis
It's unclear what this means for Isbel's timetable or if he will undergo surgery, but the nature of the injury points to an extended absence. Isbel was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday and could be a candidate to eventually shift to the 60-day IL. Lane Thomas and Kameron Misner are in line for increased opportunities in center field for the Royals while Isbel is on the shelf.

Isbel saw his most extensive action yet at the major-league level in 2024, playing 136 games and accruing 426 plate appearances. Unfortunately, he showed little-to-no advancement of his offensive game, ranking 179th in OPS and 195th in wRC+ among the 207 players to cross the 400 plate appearance threshold. The quality of contact was similarly lackluster with a hard-hit rate in the 26th percentile and barrel rate in the 12th percentile. Isbel plays an elite center field, ranking in at least the 95th percentile in Outs Above Average each of the last three seasons. The glove might be enough for the Royals to put him in the lineup regularly again at least versus righties in 2025, but Isbel will be heading into his age-28 season and we've yet to see any indication that he can be a viable fantasy contributor.
