Boston Red Sox AAA
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Campbell parlayed a strong spring and a fast start into a long-term contract that keeps him with the Red Sox through at least 2033, though its team-friendly structure could make him appealing in trade talks. After a solid April, his performance dipped and resulted in a mid-June demotion. He spent the remainder of the year at Triple-A Worcester, working to rebuild confidence while adding reps at first base and in the outfield. Although he improved with the WooSox, he didn't match the level he showed in 2024. The organization believes weight loss over the season contributed to his struggles and has emphasized strength gains this winter. For that to matter, he'll need to make more consistent contact. He'll be given an opportunity to break camp, likely competing for a utility role. Read Past Outlooks

The Red Sox optioned Campbell to Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis
Campbell faced an uphill battle to break camp with the big club, and he did himself no favors during Grapefruit League play with a .645 OPS and 2:11 BB:K in 46 plate appearances. Signed to an eight-year, $60 million extension last April, Campbell struggled out of the gates with the Red Sox last season and did not return to the majors after his demotion in June. He's expected to focus on the outfield while playing regularly at Triple-A to begin 2026.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
The top pop-up prospect of 2024, Campbell slashed .329/.437/.551 with 20 home runs, 24 steals and a 20 percent strikeout rate in 115 games across the top three levels of the minor leagues. Selected with the No. 132 overall pick in 2023, Campbell signed for just under $500K and now he has a chance of winning a spot on the Opening Day roster in 2025. While Campbell received 25-plus starts at shortstop, center field and second base last year, it's pretty clear that second base is where he fits on this roster, where David Hamilton is the top incumbent and Vaughn Grissom also hopes to figure into things. Campbell has a much higher ceiling than Hamilton or Grissom and may not be a short-term downgrade, so it would make sense for the Red Sox to break camp with Campbell if they think he's ready, as he could net them a Prospect Promotion Incentive Pick. There aren't any obvious flaws with Campbell, although 2024 was his first year hitting for notable power -- he had a higher slugging percentage last year than he did at any stop as an amateur. If he looks like the same player in spring training, momentum will build in the redraft market, and he's already a locked in top-10 dynasty prospect.

Promotion not imminent

Red Sox manager Alex Cora acknowledged Sunday that Campbell has been productive at Triple-A Worcester of late, but the skipper suggested that the 23-year-old still has work to do before earning another promotion to the majors, Jenn McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. "The same things that he struggled here [in the majors] with -- pitch recognition, covering certain shapes of fastballs," Cora said. "That's something that is hard, because he's not going to get that down there. The [velocity] here is harder. It's faster. Locations are on point here."

Latest Fantasy Rumors
No clear roster fit?
2BBoston Red Sox  AAA
February 1, 2026
The Red Sox continue to view Campbell as best suited to play the outfield, but he doesn't have an obvious fit on the roster as it's currently constructed, reports Christopher Smith of MassLive.com.
Analysis
The 23-year-old would slot in nicely as a super-utility player for Boston, but he would need to improve his infield defense significantly, as he struggled in his 59 appearances at second base in 2025. Campbell got off to a hot start last year with a .902 OPS during the first month of the campaign, but he struggled the rest of the way and finished the regular season with a .223/.319/.345 slash line. The Red Sox could prioritize him getting regular playing time at Triple-A rather than have him fill a bench role in the majors.
