Hurls scoreless frame in 2024 debut
Quijada allowed one walk in a scoreless inning Wednesday versus Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Quijada's outing was his first in the big leagues since he underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2023. The left-hander struggled a bit with his control in throwing just nine of 17 pitches for strikes, but he faced the minimum three batters, as a leadoff walk was wiped out on a double play. Quijada pitched in the sixth inning Wednesday, though he could eventually work his way up to higher-leverage work if he's able to string together a series of effective outings.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Quijada tallied the Angels' first save after they traded Raisel Iglesias, but only finished with three on the season across his 42 appearances. Still, the southpaw emerged as the Halos' left-handed specialist last season, holding same-sided hitters to a mere .115 BA. Quijada struck out 52 batters in 40.2 innings, with his mid-90's fastball responsible for 96% of those strikeouts. That's what happens when you throw the pitch 85% of the time! Quijada boasts an impressive 31.6% strikeout rate for his career, but he'll need to improve his control - his career walk rate is 14.5% - to remain in the high-leverage picture. The Angels recent addition of Carlos Estevez clouds the competition for saves, but Quijada was unlikely to rack up many chances anyway. He's still worth projecting for a handful, which certainly plays in AL-only formats.

ANALYSIS
Quijada is still splitting reps with Carlos Esteves, who also has two saves, but Quijada is nonetheless catching attention. The 27-year-old logged a reliable 3.98 ERA last season and could continue being a subtle source of saves throughout the season.
