Adon (biceps) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander landed on the injured list in late August due to a biceps strain, and he won't be eligible to return for the final stretch of the season. Adon made one start in eight appearances with the Nationals this year and posted a 6.75 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 6:4 K:BB over 10.2 innings.

Stat Review
How does Joan Adon compare to other relievers?
This section compares his stats with all relief pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 30 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 30 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
  • K/BB
    Strikeout to walk ratio.
  • K/9
    Average strikeouts per nine innings.
  • BB/9

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Adon has above-average velocity and has often produced groundballs at a high rate. It's a combination which has intrigued the Nationals enough to give the right-hander 25 starts (27 appearances in total) and 121.2 innings over the last three seasons. However, Adon simply has shown no semblance of being a major-league caliber starting pitcher, collecting a 6.66 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 11.5 percent walk rate over that span. He's also produced just a 4.64 ERA and 1.52 WHIP at Triple-A Rochester over the last two seasons. It's a profile which screams reliever, and that may very well be where Adon winds up in 2024.
Adon was a surprise addition to the Nationals' 2022 Opening Day rotation, but he struggled to a 7.10 ERA and was not seen again at the major-league level after July 7. Dress in layers if you're to visit Adon's Statcast page -- there is a lot of frigid blue, showing bottom-10 percentile ranks in xERA, xBA, xSLG, Barrel%, BB% and Whiff%. Things got better with Triple-A Rochester from a run-prevention standpoint (4.68 ERA), but Adon remained far too generous with the free passes (5.1 BB/9). Mostly a fastball-curveball pitcher last season, Adon brings good velocity with the heater. The Nationals may need him to eat innings in 2023 after he cleared 100 frames between the two levels a season ago. The 24-year-old remains on the 40-man roster as of late December.
