The 31-year-old righty has previously made 28 appearances (11 starts) with the White Sox between the 2023 and 2025 seasons, but it's unclear whether the Rays plan to use him in the rotation or out of the bullpen at Triple-A Durham to begin the upcoming campaign.

Scholtens probably would have made a bunch of starts for the feeble White Sox in 2024 had he been healthy, but the 30-year-old blew out his elbow and needed Tommy John surgery in early March. He could be in the mix for the rotation again in Chicago, once healthy, but a late start to the 2025 campaign is possible. Scholtens struck out around a batter per inning in the minors, but he had just a 15.4 percent strikeout rate with the big club in 2023 while splitting time between the rotation and bullpen.
