2026 Fantasy Outlook
If you are a parent, grandparents, or guardian, you have likely sung head, shoulders, knees, and toes to children. Get that song in your head and replace the lyrics with knee, oblique, ankle, and calf for Fraley because name a body part and he has injured it in recent seasons. Fraley was designed for assignment by the Reds after a knee injury and was one of the many players Atlanta picked up off waivers. Fraley had some timely hits in his brief time before an oblique injury ended his season and he was eventually designated for assignment and was eventually claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay. On paper, Fraley plays the corner outfield positions, yet both corner outfield positions at press time are also manned by lefty hitters in Simpson and Lowe. Neither of those options has shown the ability to handle centerfield, so Fraley's fantasy viability in AL-Only leagues is currently clouded. Should Lowe or Simpson be dealt or moved to center, Fraley becomes a strong-side platoon option at a corner outfield position for a team whose collective 2025 outfield hit all of 29 home runs. Facing long-term absence
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that Fraley (hernia) will require surgery and will face a recovery timeline of 6-to-8 weeks, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis
Tampa Bay placed Fraley on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to the hernia, but it wasn't immediately clear whether the outfielder would need surgery to address the matter. Now that the Rays have confirmed Fraley will need a procedure, he appears likely to remain on the shelf through the All-Star break. Jonny DeLuca and Ryan Vilade likely represent the top candidates to see added opportunities in right field while Fraley is shelved, and utility player Richie Palacios also looms as an option to see more work in the outfield.

Fraley was banged up throughout the 2024 season and landed on the injured list in August with a right knee sprain. In between the fits and starts, he managed just five home runs across 382 plate appearances, presumably related to his various health woes. The outfielder still reached 20 steals for the second straight year and finished strong with a .299/.353/.455 line in September. Fraley made six starts and totaled 33 plate appearances against left-handed pitching last season, and he is unlikely to be more than a platoon player under new manager Terry Francona. Nonetheless, Fraley is a bounce-back candidate and has appeal as a late-round outfielder given his well-rounded skill set and opportunity in an advantageous home park.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Possible trade target
Levi Weaver of The Athletic speculates the Rangers could attempt to acquire Fraley from the Reds.
Analysis
Fraley was limited to just 68 games last season due to knee and toe injuries, but he was a valuable bat when available with a .259/.344/.468 slash line and 12 home runs. The 27-year-old is a poor defender and typically fares better against right-handed pitching, and the Rangers could look for him to fill the strong side of a platoon in left field if a deal is reached.
