2024 Fantasy Outlook
Alu has defied the odds as a former 24th-round pick out of Boston College who was added to the Nationals' 40-man roster last offseason following a breakout year in the minors. He began the 2023 campaign on Triple-A Rochester's injured list with a knee issue but nonetheless found himself in the big leagues by early May. Alu was with the Nationals for good in the second half but never found his footing at the plate, ultimately finishing with just a .571 OPS, two home runs and five stolen bases over 51 contests. The 26-year-old saw action at second and third base and in left field with the Nats and is a candidate to garner some playing time at all three of those spots against right-handers in 2024. The 20 homers Alu hit in the minors in 2022 look like an outlier, and his 33.3 percent hard-hit rate in the majors and 28.3 percent hard-hit rate in the minors in 2023 are very underwhelming. He can run a little, though, and could wind up playing quite a bit for the Nationals this season. Read Past Outlooks
Outrighted to Triple-A
Alu cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Rochester on Sunday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alu was designated for assignment Tuesday and will stick in the organization after he went unclaimed on waivers. The 27-year-old struggled to .538 OPS in 65 plate appearances at Rochester before he lost his place on Washington's 40-man roster.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Alu is already a success story as a 24th-round pick in 2019 who reached the Nationals' 40-man roster, having been added in November. He tallied 40 doubles, 20 home runs and 15 steals while slashing .299/.365/.506 in 567 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A last season. Those numbers are impressive, even if he was a little old for those levels at 25. Alu played primarily at third base although he can fill in at second base and left field in a pinch. Third base is wide open in Washington and Alu may get a look as the Nationals evaluate for the future. Alu is a legitimate major-league prospect, one who could play more than expected for a second-division club.
