2026 Fantasy Outlook
Perkins earned his first big-league promotion in June 2025 after he had collected a 2.86 ERA and 68:20 K:BB over his first 44 innings at Triple-A Las Vegas. The Athletics initially used the 26-year-old as a multi-inning reliever, even giving him a save chance at one point because a Mason Miller trade was in the works. Perkins' final four outings came in the rotation and they were less successful, as he held a 5.68 ERA and 18:11 K:BB over 19 frames before going down with a strained shoulder. As long as he's healthy, Perkins should get another chance to start for the Athletics in 2026. It's worrisome, though, that the righty missed significant time with a lat injury in 2024 and then a shoulder issue in 2025. Perkins also must again pitch his home games at Sutter Health Park, where he held a 6.61 ERA in 2025 (versus a 2.42 ERA on the road). Read Past Outlooks
Fades late in no-decision
Perkins allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over five-plus innings in a no-decision against Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
Analysis
The A's staked Perkins to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, and he limited the Pirates to just one run through five frames. However, the right-hander began the sixth by serving up a solo homer to Bryan Reynolds followed by a Ryan O'Hearn double before being pulled. O'Hearn eventually came around to score, and a late Pittsburgh comeback removed Perkins from factoring into the decision. The plus side is that Perkins completed five frames for the first time this season, and he reached 85 pitches for the second straight start. It hasn't been the smoothest of transitions for Perkins after he worked out of the bullpen until the beginning of June, but Tuesday's outing was at least a step in the right direction.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Perkins broke out in 2024 after his season was delayed by a lat injury. The powerful 6-foot-1 righty had a 2.96 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 100 strikeouts in 76 innings at Double-A as a 24-year-old, and he got better as the season went on. He had three 10-K outings and a 0.99 WHIP over his final nine starts, and he may not need much time at Triple-A to be deemed ready for primetime. Perkins has legitimate stuff to back up his impressive 2024 stats, boasting a mid-90s fastball with good carry, a plus slider and a decent cutter. His changeup and curveball could use some refinement, and he will face questions about his strike throwing until he proves himself in the majors, just due to the fact he's already 25 years old. However, the pitcher Perkins was down the stretch last year looked like a potential mid-rotation starter in the big leagues, so he's a nice sleeper in dynasty and in redraft.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Uncertain role for 2026
It remains uncertain whether Perkins will be a starter or reliever for the Athletics in 2026, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com.
Analysis
Perkins debuted as a top prospect in 2025 and showed flashes of his talent, but his season was cut short by a shoulder injury. He could either be a starter or one of the team's top relievers if they don't think he can hold up over a full season as a starter. Perkins will enter camp pushing for a spot on the rotation, though.
