2026 Fantasy Outlook
Dobbins was the first of three rookie pitchers to debut for the Red Sox last season, with more highly regarded prospects Connelly Early and Payton Tolle promoted later in the year. He opened the season at Triple-A Worcester and spent much of the first half moving between the majors and minors. Dobbins made 13 appearances for Boston, including 11 starts, before tearing the UCL in his right knee in early July. The injury ended his season, though he is expected to be fully healthy by spring training. He showed solid control and did a good job limiting home runs, but a modest 17.6 percent strikeout rate resulted in an ERA near league average, which was supported by the underlying estimators. While he missed more bats in the minors, Dobbins has not profiled as a dominant arm and is best suited for a swingman role, primarily working out of the bullpen, which limits his fantasy appeal. Analysis
Dobbins is still working his way back from July surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. Though he's been able to steadily build up his pitch count throughout the spring through live batting practice sessions and simulated games, he's not yet been cleared for full fielding and agility drills. Once he clears that hurdle in the recovery process, Dobbins may not require an extensive rehab assignment, but the Cardinals aren't guaranteed to have a spot in the rotation available for him upon his return from the IL.

Rotation spot secure?
The Red Sox placed Tanner Houck on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a right flexor pronator strain, reports Rob Bradford of WEEI.com, which could allow Dobbins to stick in the rotation even once Walker Buehler returns from his shoulder issue.
Analysis
Dobbins' place in the rotation appeared to be precarious due to Buehler potentially returning next week, but Houck's injury provides an alternate path to Dobbins staying in the majors. Dobbins has pitched well in his first four big-league starts and has a 2.78 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB across 22.2 innings, so he's certainly earned a longer look in the majors. Cooper Criswell, who replaced Houck on the MLB roster Wednesday, could also be a factor in the rotation.
