2026 Fantasy Outlook
Uceta began his career as a journeyman reliever, but has carved out a high-leverage role ever since joining the Rays during the 2024 campaign. The 28-year-old doesn't throw super hard (94 mph on average), but he boasts one of the better four-seam fastballs in the league, as his 38.7 percent whiff rate ranked second overall for that pitch type behind only Edwin Diaz. Combined with an effective changeup that also induced plenty of swing-and-miss, Uceta was one of five relief pitchers to record 100-plus strikeouts in 2025, finishing fifth with 103. He ranked second among relievers with 10 wins and tenth with a career-high 76.0 innings. Uceta overcame a rough first-half (5.53 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) to finish 2025 on a high note, recording a 1.78 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 50:10 K:BB over 35.1 innings after the All-Star break. He is expected to be part of a closer-by-committee for the Rays in 2026 along with Griffin Jax and Garrett Cleavinger, who boast wider arsenals and more impressive skills. Read Past Outlooks

Analysis
Another session is on tap for Uceta on Tuesday, and the hope is that a minor-league rehab assignment will be on the horizon shortly thereafter. The right-hander was in contention to begin the season as one of Tampa Bay's closer options, and it sounds like Uceta has a chance to return from right shoulder soreness and make his season debut by late April. It's worth noting that Griffin Jax has already blown two saves in as many appearances to start the year.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Pitching for his fourth team in as many seasons, Uceta emerged as a trusted reliever for Tampa Bay, particularly as the 2024 campaign was winding down. The 26-year-old was recalled from the minors in late-June and became part of the Rays' fluid mix for save opportunities after closer Pete Fairbanks suffered a season-ending injury last August, recording five of the team's final 13 saves for a near 40 percent team save share over that span. For the season, Uceta produced an outstanding 1.51 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 57:8 K:BB across 41.2 innings, though his mediocre results during his minor league career (4.15 ERA, 1.28 WHIP over 457.2 innings across eight seasons) make it difficult to project what he'll offer this coming year. The right-hander is likely to remain part of Tampa Bay's high-leverage mix to open 2025, but any save chances will likely correlate with Fairbanks' availability this season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Unlikely for Opening Day
Uceta, who's dealing with a shoulder injury, is not expected to be ready for Opening Day, according to Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times.
Analysis
Uceta has yet to pitch this spring due to shoulder inflammation, and while the injury isn't expected to be a long-term problem, it will probably prevent the 28-year-old from being ready for the start of the season. Uceta has an outside shot at pitching in an exhibition game before the end of spring training, but it seems he won't have enough time to ramp up to full readiness. Pitching coach Kyle Snyder said Monday that Uceta, who's still limited to playing catch, is "probably still another couple of weeks away from getting back on the mound."
