2026 Fantasy Outlook
Fuentes missed the last six weeks of 2025 with shoulder inflammation and gave up 20 earned runs over 13 innings in the majors, but he could still have a productive 2026 campaign if healthy. Fuentes should be graded on a curve, given that he was the youngest player to play in the majors last year by eight months and doesn't turn 21 until mid June. Fuentes' fastball got rocked by big leaguers because he wasn't locating it up in the zone, but that mid-90s offering (touches 99 mph) has strong characteristics and is easily his best pitch. Over Fuentes' final eight starts in the minors, stretching from May to August, he logged a 3.22 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 46:8 K:BB in 36.1 innings. Five of those starts came at Triple-A, where Fuentes was the youngest pitcher to throw 20-plus innings. Atlanta has pushed Fuentes aggressively for a reason, but he's still developing, particularly his fastball command and secondary offerings. Assuming he's healthy, Fuentes should open the year at Triple-A and will be a big-league rotation option this summer. Read Past Outlooks
Picks up first save
Fuentes earned the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Pirates, allowing two hits while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.
Analysis
With Raisel Iglesias having pitched back-to-back days, it was Fuentes who got the call in the ninth inning Sunday instead of Robert Suarez. It didn't come easy for the 20-year-old right-hander, as the Pirates got the tying and go-ahead runs aboard with one out. However, Fuentes managed to induce a popup off the bat of Jared Triolo before striking out Endy Rodriguez to close out the one-run victory and earn his first career save. While Atlanta still views Fuentes as a long-term starter, he's been stellar out of the bullpen recently, allowing just one run on eight hits while striking out 14 in his last 12 appearances (13.1 innings).

Still viewed as future starter
Fuentes will likely remain in a long-relief role this season unless Atlanta endures further injuries in the rotation, but his long-term future is still as a starting pitcher, Jesus Cano of The Athletic reports. "Developing starters in the bullpen used to be the blueprint in this game," manager Walt Weiss said Monday. "I think you have to identify the guys that can benefit, and (Fuentes) is one of those guys."

Chance for call-up?
Fuentes will be eligible to be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett this week and could soon get a look in Atlanta's rotation after Martin Perez was designated for assignment Sunday, reports Lindsay Crosby of BravesToday.com.
Analysis
The right-hander opened the season in Atlanta's bullpen and was excellent in his season debut with one run allowed over four innings of long relief, but he was optioned to Gwinnett the following day. Fuentes has stayed stretched out at Triple-A and been excellent through his first two starts, striking out 15 across 9.2 scoreless frames. Atlanta doesn't need a fifth starter until next week, at which point Fuentes could get a look in the big-league rotation.
