2026 Fantasy Outlook
At the time of the trade that sent Hagaman, Kohl Drake and Mitch Bratt from the Rangers to the Diamondbacks in exchange for Merrill Kelly at last year's deadline, Hagaman was seen by some as the potential third piece in that deal. Fast forward to this offseason and Hagaman is the Diamondbacks' top pitching prospect. A 6-foot-4, 185-pound righty who was drafted in the fourth round in 2024 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, Hagaman only pitched 22.1 innings as a Rangers farmhand before the trade. He was bumped from Single-A to High-A for his debut with his new organization in August and went on to log a 3.15 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 27:4 K:BB in 20 innings across five starts. He already touches 98 mph with his fastball and projects to add more strength and another tick or two in the coming years. A plus mid-80s curveball is his top secondary pitch and an above-average changeup and average slider round out his four-pitch mix. The Diamondbacks will take the training wheels off in 2026 and allow Hagaman to go deeper into outings as he climbs into the upper levels of the minors. He has clear No. 3 starter upside and a chance to jump another level this year. Read Past Outlooks
Building up in extended ST
Hagaman has not been assigned to an affiliate as he continues to build up in extended spring training, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.
Analysis
He underwent internal brace surgery in 2024 and had an excellent return to action in 2025, logging a 2.98 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 27.6 K-BB% in 13 starts across the lower levels before striking out 14 in 12 innings in the Arizona Fall League. The Diamondbacks aren't saying Hagaman is hurt, but he presumably dealt with some soreness at some point in camp to be behind at this stage. He only logged 20 innings at High-A, but Hagaman could be ready for a bump to Double-A once he's fully built up, or shortly thereafter.
