2026 Fantasy Outlook
Phillips was sidelined at the onset of 2025 due to Thoracic Outlet Syndrome in his neck. The 24-year-old received Botox injections for about a month without getting much better, but he informed the Reds' front office and coaching staff that he could throw 20-to-25 pitches at a time with success. Soon after, he began the conversion from starting to a relief role. Phillips had a lot of moving parts with his mechanics, so he lowered his glove-side arm in order to better repeat his delivery. This adjustment produced much better results at the Triple-A level, so the right-hander was recalled to the majors last August. Not only did he add velocity - he tossed his fastball 98.3 mph on average - he produced elite whiff and strikeout rates thanks to a devastating sweeper (.053 BA, .158 SLG, 53.2 percent whiff). Phillips' role in the Reds' bullpen could be elevated in 2026, but inconsistent command and a risk of re-injury are notable red flags within his profile. Read Past Outlooks
Extra-inning win
Phillips (1-0-) threw two scoreless innings against the Red Sox on Saturday, picking up the win when the Reds walked it off in the 11th inning. He struck out three without allowing a hit or a walk.
Analysis
Phillips played an increasingly important role in the Reds bullpen when they pushed to win a wild-card spot last season. He's unlikely to displace Emilio Pagan, Tony Santillan or even Graham Ashcraft in the bullpen pecking order for the Reds, but he could serve as a nice pivot whenever one or more of them is unavailable.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Phillips, a second-round draft pick by the Mariners in 2020, ended up in Cincinnati as the player to be named later in the 2022 Eugenio Suarez trade. He got a brief look in the majors 2023 but was nowhere to be found at the big-league level last season. The right-hander totally lost his feel for the strike zone in the minors, to the point that the Reds had to hit the reset button and send Phillips to rookie ball to iron things out. He returned to Triple-A Louisville to make a handful of starts at the end of the season and pitched fairly well in September around continued fits of wildness. Until he shows significant improvement with his command and control, Phillips will remain a volatile and untrustworthy option.
