Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
The 29-year-old lefty owns a career 3.66 ERA (3.58 SIERA) across seven seasons, making him a competent middle reliever but not someone who will threaten to take the closer role from Emilio Pagan after signing with the Reds. Ferguson made 70 regular-season appearances in 2025 between the Pirates and Mariners, posting a 3.58 ERA and 51:22 K:BB over 65.1 innings. The southpaw held left-handed hitters to a .184/.261/.204 batting line, so Ferguson should be leaned on heavily by manager Terry Francona in 2026 when the opposition has lefties due up. Sidelined by strained oblique
The Reds placed Ferguson (oblique) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis
Ferguson will get a late start to the season after tweaking his right oblique in mid-March. Once healthy, he's expected to fill a middle-relief role in the Cincinnati bullpen.

Ferguson returned from Tommy John surgery last May after missing the entire 2021 season. The southpaw was demoted after just one appearance, but returned to the Dodgers a few weeks later and pitched a handful of outings before he experienced left forearm tendinitis. Los Angeles played it cautiously with Ferguson, who returned after a month and extended his scoreless streak to 19 games before finally permitting a run in mid August. He wasn't as sharp from that point forward, recording a 1.88 WHIP and 11 walks over his final 16 innings. Ferguson finished the season with a 12% walk rate, issuing 17 over 34.2 innings, but he only permitted one home run and continued his success against right-handed hitters (.173 BA since 2020). The lefty isn't near the top of the Dodgers' leverage ladder, but it's possible he enters the mix for saves at some point in 2023, especially if he goes on another scoreless streak like last year.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely to be dealt
According to Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com, Ferguson is likely to be traded by the Pirates ahead of Thursday's deadline.
Analysis
The left-hander joined Pittsburgh on a one-year, $3 million contract in January, and that expiring contract makes him an obvious bet to be traded. Ferguson has been a reliable option out of the bullpen with a 3.74 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 34:14 K:BB across 43.1 innings this year, and he would be good fit for any contending clubs in need of lefty bullpen help.
