2026 Fantasy Outlook
Bernardino enjoyed a strong 2025 season with Boston, posting a 3.14 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 43:26 K:BB over 51.2 innings while notching one save and two holds. The southpaw ended the campaign on the IL due to a strained lat, but there's no reason at this point to think that the injury will affect his availability for the start of spring training. Bernardino should immediately become a key member of a Rockies bullpen and could contend for save chances. Read Past Outlooks
Working as opener Saturday
Bernardino will serve as the Rockies' opening pitcher for Saturday's game against Atlanta.
Analysis
The Rockies have typically used an opener in front of right-hander Chase Dollander this season, and the team will call upon Bernardino to handle those duties Saturday. The 34-year-old southpaw has been one of the most effective members of Colorado's entire pitching staff this season, turning in a 0.71 ERA and 1.03 WHIP through 12.2 innings. He'll likely work just an inning or two before giving way to Dollander.

Lefty option in September?
Bernadino could return to Seattle during September to give the team another lefty option out of the bullpen.
Analysis
Seattle signed Bernadino in June and the lefty has pitched well in 14 appearances for Triple-A Tacoma, posting a 2.45 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 23:6 K:BB in 18.1 innings. The 30-year-old made his big-league debut in August and has allowed one earned run in 2.1 innings for the Mariners. Matthew Boyd is expected to be activated Thursday following an extended stay on the injured list with an elbow injury, but Bernadino could be the next man up for a promotion to Seattle's bullpen.
