2026 Fantasy Outlook
Lord's rookie season can be split into three distinct phases. He opened as a swingman, posting a 4.45 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 28.1 innings before shifting to a full-time bullpen role, where he excelled with a 2.70 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and seven holds across 36.2 frames. He was later reinserted into the rotation, making 13 second-half starts while recording a 5.21 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP over 65.2 stanzas. As expected, his strikeout and walk rates were stronger in relief, even though many of those outings covered multiple innings. Lord is likely to be stretched out as a starter in spring training, but Washington's rotation depth could push him back to a high-leverage relief role, especially with limited reliable late-inning options. As a starter, he profiles as a streaming option. As a reliever, Lord carries speculative closer appeal. Read Past Outlooks

Analysis
Cade Cavalli got the start but recorded only 11 outs on 75 pitches before getting the hook, and Lord was the Nat reliever handed the win by the official scorer. Lord is likely to have a versatile role out of the bullpen, getting used for longer stints but also potentially being a part of the high-leverage mix after the right-hander posted a 4.34 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 108:43 K:BB over 130.2 innings as a rookie in 2025 while starting 19 of his 48 appearances.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Nationals have had some impressive success in the last couple years turning unheralded prospects into major-league arms, and Lord might be the next hurler to join that list. An 18th-round pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the 25-year-old right-hander pitched at three levels last year, finishing his breakout campaign with a 3.93 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 57:20 K:BB over 55 Triple-A innings. His success largely came from the deception in his nearly sidearm delivery, but if Lord has developed a legitimate fastball, it could position him for a spot in the big-league bullpen at some point in 2025.
