Summoned from Triple-A
CSan Diego Padres
June 14, 2026
The Padres selected Hunt's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
Analysis
Top backstop Freddy Fermin (concussion) was placed on the 7-day injured list Sunday, so Hunt will receive the second big-league call-up of his career. He's still waiting to make his MLB debut, however, as he didn't get the chance to play during a one-day stint in the majors with the Orioles in 2024. Hunt will add depth at catcher behind Rodolfo Duran, who is expected to serve as the Padres' primary option behind the plate while Fermin is on the shelf.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
The Padres spent the 69th pick in the 2017 draft on Hunt, largely based on his tools and size. Since, he's drawn strong reviews for his development in three minor-league seasons and a summer at the Padres' alternative training site. Specifically, Hunt handled his first stint at Low-A well at the plate, striking out at just a 17.8% clip. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound backstop hasn't hit for much power in real games, but he hit some impressive shots this past summer. Even more encouraging has been Hunt's progress behind the plate. He's focused on improving his framing ability, working to complement his already strong arm and ability to limit the running game. Hunt was dealt to the Rays in the offseason, and is likely to reach Double-A for the first time assuming a relatively normal minor-league season. Though still a decent distance from the majors, Hunt's first steps as a professional have been positive.
