2026 Fantasy Outlook
Despite not beginning 2025 with the major-league club, Barger finished third on the Blue Jays with 21 home runs during the regular season before playing a huge role in the team's playoff run. Barger slashed .367/.441/.583 with three homers in the postseason, including the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history. In his age-25 season, Barger saw most of his playing time at third base, though he also made 57 appearances in right field, maintaining dual eligibility for 2026. What Barger lacks in terms of plate skills, he makes for with a lot of hard contact, ranking in the top 10 percent of the league in hard-hit rate last season. On the heels of a breakout campaign, Barger's at-bats against right-handed pitching appear secure thanks in part to his ability to handle multiple positions for Toronto. Read Past Outlooks

April 16, 2026
Barger (ankles) resumed baseball activity at the Blue Jays' complex in Florida this week and is expected to begin swinging the bat Friday or Saturday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis
Barger has played catch the last two days, and returning to hitting and running are the next steps in his recovery from sprained left and right ankles. Barger is expected to resume running Tuesday or Wednesday of next week and will go from there. While eligible to come off the injured list Friday, that doesn't appear to be a realistic target for Barger. Perhaps he'll be back with the Blue Jays for the start of their next homestand against the Guardians on Friday, April 24.

Stat Review
How does Addison Barger compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
Barger was one of the better prospects in the Toronto organization who finally earned his promotion to big club as Bo Bichette's body began failing him. Barger had done well hitting in the upper levels, especially in Triple-A where the ABS system certainly helps hitters better figure out the strike zone. Barger has been particularly adept at earning those Triple-A walks and making good contact, but struggled in both areas in his rookie season, as opposing pitchers spent the season overpowering him. Fastballs were problematic for Barger (.212 BA), and cheating on them left him particularly prone to change-ups (.146 BA.) His swing-and-miss was over 25percent against all pitch classification, and he struck out in 50 percent of his plate appearances against fellow lefties. Barger will need to hit his way onto the club, as there are several players with better bats, and Clement is out of options, giving Barger a leg up. It would not be surprising in the least to see Barger back in Buffalo while he waits for a call from the Jays to cover for injuries throughout the season.
Barger, who broke out in 2022, transitioned from shortstop to third base, second base and right field while treading water at Triple-A for most of 2023. He missed time early in the season with an elbow issue and hit .255 with a .361 OBP, eight home runs, four steals and a 19.1 percent strikeout rate in 71 games after returning to play in mid-June. The lefty hitter wasn't so bad in 2023 that he couldn't break through this year, but wasn't good enough at Triple-A (92 wRC+) to comfortably project as a big-league regular. Perhaps he will get work at second base against right-handed pitching, or he could get regular work at the hot corner if the likes of Cavan Biggio, Santiago Espinal and Isiah Kiner-Falefa aren't getting it done. Barger turns 25 next offseason, so this is a big year for him to try to break through with the big club. He saw the most time in right field last season, so that's where he will be eligible this year in most formats.
Barger doesn't have the greatest approach in the world, but he has plus power and is likely to make his MLB debut sometime this season. A 23-year-old lefty-hitting infielder, Barger primarily played shortstop and third base while climbing from High-A to Triple-A last season, and he also saw time at second base in the Arizona Fall League. Barger slashed .306/.375/.544 with 26 home runs, nine steals on 14 attempts, a 25.1 K% and a 8.9 BB%. For what it's worth, his K% and BB% steadily improved with each promotion against theoretically better pitching, so Barger seemingly got better as the season progressed before laying an egg (.638 OPS) in a small sample in the AFL. Santiago Espinal is the best second baseman on Toronto's roster, so the keystone is Barger's best avenue to breaking through with MLB playing time. The Blue Jays could also opt to trade him to a second-division team, which would be good for his dynasty value. He is pretty aggressive at the plate, but his .830 OPS against same-handed pitching leaves open the possibility that he could eventually be an everyday player who hits 25 homers per season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Set for more run at third base
OFToronto Blue Jays
April 30, 2025
Barger is expected to see significant playing time at third base moving forward after the Blue Jays demoted Will Wagner on Tuesday, reports Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca.
Analysis
Daulton Varsho's return from a shoulder injury will limit the opportunities in the outfield, which is where Barger has seen all six of his starts early in 2025. The 25-year-old is a third baseman by trade, but Wagner and Ernie Clement split starts there for the first month of the campaign. Clement is the current favorite for playing time at the hot corner, but his .533 OPS shouldn't offer much job security. Barger hasn't been much better with a .598 OPS, but he's received far few opportunities with just 24 plate appearances and would likely benefit from more regular chances.
