Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Grandal's 2024 season was a tale of two halves. He got off to a slow start to the season and didn't make his debut until May 3 due to a foot injury. Perhaps not healthy for the first half of the season, Grandal had just a 34 wRC+ and had lost the starting backstop role in Pittsburgh to Joey Bart at the All-Star break. However, he came alive in the final two months of the campaign by maintaining an impressive .256 ISO and 17.8 percent walk rate. Combined with his continued excellent framing work behind the plate, there's a case to be made for Grandal to earn a short-term big-league deal later this offseason. However, his chances of being a team's primary option behind the dish are minimal, in turn limiting his fantasy appeal. If he does get consistent playing time, Grandal could be a decent source of power but will be a drain in nearly every other fantasy category. Read Past Outlooks

Grandal lost playing time down the stretch last season and and finished with a .234/.309/.339 slash line over 405 plate appearances. Though he was once an upper-tier fantasy catcher, Grandal is clearly on the downside of his career, as he's posted a lowly 74 wRC+ over the past two seasons. In Pittsburgh, Grandal projects to see a couple of starts per week behind the plate as young backstop Henry Davis' primary backup. The switch-hitting Grandal has typically performed better against left-handed pitching throughout his career, so he could also be deployed as a short-side platoon option at first base or at designated hitter.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Declined offer from Atlanta
Grandal turned down an offer from Atlanta about a month ago, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Grandal is open to continuing his career, but it sounds like he will only do so for the right situation. If that doesn't come to fruition, the 36-year-old will consider retirement. Grandal's name has also popped up as a potential option for the Mets following Francisco Alvarez's hand injury, but Will Sammon of The Athletic suggests it's unlikely to be a fit.
