2025 Fantasy Outlook
For the first time in his MLB career, Hendricks will pitch for a team other than the Cubs. The 11-year veteran signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Angels shortly after the end of the 2024 season. Hendricks will now slot into a Los Angeles rotation that is short on proven big-league starters. Tyler Anderson led the way for the Angels last season, posting a solid 3.81 ERA across 179.1 innings (31 starts). Beyond Anderson, the team has the likes of Jose Soriano, Reid Detmers, Sam Aldegheri and others jockeying for roles. As a result, Hendricks should have a firm grip on a starting spot despite his struggles in 2024. The righty posted a 5.92 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 29 appearances (24 starts), both of which were new career worsts. Hendricks has never been known to miss many bats, but with his K/9 dipping below 6.00, his margin for error got even smaller last year. His walk rate and home run rate also both went up from a season earlier, which is not a recipe for success. Perhaps the change of scenery will revitalize Hendricks entering his age-35 season, though there are plenty of concerning signs for fantasy managers. Read Past Outlooks

Six strong innings in season debut
Hendricks didn't factor into the decision after allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks in six innings Tuesday against the Cardinals. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander was sharp in his season debut and effectively shut down St. Louis' lineup besides Jordan Walker, who singled to plate a run in the second inning and went deep in the fourth frame to drive in another. Hendricks' momentum from spring training appears to have carried into the regular season thus far, as he turned in a 2.41 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 16 punchouts over 18.2 frames in the Cactus League.

Hendricks got a delayed start to his 2023 campaign due to a shoulder strain he sustained in July of the previous season. The veteran debuted in May and ended up tossing 137 innings across 24 starts. He ultimately posted a 3.74 ERA, which was a step down from his 3.48 career mark but a step forward from the 4.80 ERA he recorded in 2022. Per usual, Hendricks continued to pitch to contact, as he recorded only 93 strikeouts across those 137 innings. The righty has now posted a K/9 below 8.0 in each of the last seven seasons. While Hendricks can make that work to some degree in real life, it does limit his fantasy upside. Heading into his age-34 season, Hendricks should once again be a key cog in Chicago's rotation, likely slotting in behind Justin Steele and possibly Jameson Taillon. Hendricks figures to be fairly consistent if he stays healthy and can provide some value to fantasy managers in the right matchups, though keep expectations in check due to his advancing age and low strikeout totals.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Likely done with North Siders
According to Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network, Hendricks has likely pitched his final game with the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Hendricks had a resurgence in 2023 with a 3.74 ERA over 24 starts, but he followed that up with the worst season of his career in 2024 and was pushed to the bullpen for the first time since 2016. The 34-year-old posted a 5.92 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 87:43 across 130.2 innings this year, and he may have a hard time finding guaranteed opportunities to start in free agency.
