Eaton had three stints in the majors in 2025, eventually finishing the season in Boston during its playoff push. His utility and speed (nine steals, 90 plate appearances) were helpful and is what earned him a spot on the playoff roster. Injuries cleared a path for the 29-year-old, who slashed .296/.348/.731 with 16 runs scored over 41 games. Most of that damage came at Fenway Park (.874 /.608 OPS home/road split). Boston entered the offseason with questions at third base - will Alex Bregman be brought back or does it sign an outside free agent - and whether right fielder Wilyer Abreu can become an everyday presence against left-handers. Eaton, as one of several multi-positional options currently on the 40-man roster, could fill in at either spot, although it's unlikely the Red Sox head into the season without addressing third base or need Eaton in an everyday role.
