Diaz was called up by Oakland in mid-April and had a .656 OPS in 24 games before being demoted a month later, and he then rejoined the A's in late June. The 23-year-old didn't perform any better the rest of the way with a .222/.281/.350 slash line over 66 contests. He was a decent defender at second base but saw more of his time at the hot corner (38 appearances), where he struggled with negative-11 DRS. Diaz had an .857 OPS at Triple-A during his monthlong stint on the farm and has little else to prove in the minors, but his .225 xBA and .369 xSLG don't paint a rosy picture. He'll likely need to show some improvements early in 2024 in order to retain a spot on the big-league roster given his 79 wRC+ through 105 MLB games. Read Past Outlooks
