It's been a busy offseason for Thompson, who started 2023 with Texas and has been with four organizations since August. The Reds claimed him off waivers from Kansas City in October, then designated him in December to make room on the 40-man roster for re-signed reliever Buck Farmer. The Yankees then pounced on the available outfielder and added him to their 40-man. Aside from his MLB-ready defense, Thompson brings speed, and a lot of it. He stole 18 bags in 55 games for the Rangers in 2022 - fueled by an elevated BABIP - which was helpful to fantasy managers. The Reds saw a right-handed bat that could be added to a lefty-dominant outfield, while New York envisions the potential havoc Thompson would create on the base paths.
