Hoskins was the Opening Day first baseman and cleanup hitter for the Brewers and slashed .276/.374/.475 with nine home runs through the end of May. Things took a turn for the (much) worse for Hoskins after that. He hit .170/.269/.330 over his next 27 games before suffering a sprained thumb that cost him more than two months of action. By the time Hoskins returned, Andrew Vaughn was established at first base and Christian Yelich was holding down the designated hitter spot, which meant Hoskins barely played at all in September and then was left off the Brewers' postseason rosters. The 33-year-old can still hit for power and draw walks, which might be enough to land him a starting gig in free agency.
