Brayan Bello

Bello signed a six-year extension during spring training, picked up an Opening Day win and early on looked like a No. 1 starter. Then the walks started. He went from 76th percentile in BB% (6.7) in 2023 to 33rd (9.1) in 2024. The right-hander managed to win 14 games but needed good run support during the rough patches. Bello's 4.49 ERA was the worst among starters with at least that many wins. Walks don't always kill, but they hurt during the first half when he allowed 14 home runs over 89.2 innings (1.4 HR/9) and entered the break with a 5.32 ERA. The walks didn't stop in the second half, but Bello was able to prevent damage through better location which kept the ball in the park; he allowed just five homers in 72.2 innings (0.6 per nine) following the break. The pressure to lead the staff won't be on the 25-year-old in 2025, as Bello should slot behind Garrett Crochet and Tanner Houck. Read Past Outlooks
