Justyn-Henry Malloy News: Recalled by Detroit

The Tigers recalled Malloy from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Malloy wasn't able to crack the Opening Day roster despite a strong spring training, but the 25-year-old will join the big club after Detroit placed second baseman Gleyber Torres (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Monday in a corresponding move. Over 71 regular-season games with the Tigers as a rookie in 2024, Malloy slashed .203/.291/.366 with eight home runs and 21 RBI across 230 plate appearances, though he struck out at a 37 percent clip. Malloy won't be a direct replacement for Torres, but he could see some starts in the outfield or at designated hitter while all of Matt Vierling (shoulder), Parker Meadows (arm) and Wenceel Perez (back) are on the IL.
