Closer Watch

Rangers -- After the Rangers lost 7-1 to the Mariners on Monday, manager Ron Washington indicated that Soria would have been used if a save situation had presented itself, but also noted that Alexi Ogando will "get a chance to close ball games" as well. It's likely just a measure to protect Soria's workload as he takes part in his first full season since undergoing Tommy John surgery, but it does make Ogando a little more interesting in deeper or NL-only formats. Soria has successfully converted the lone save opportunity he's received this season, but his overall numbers haven't been great. He's given up four runs on five hits and two walks over five total innings of work.

Recommended Pickup

George Springer, OF, HOU -- Although his propensity for striking out has stalled his arrival to the big leagues, Springer has long produced delightful numbers in 5x5 categories down in the minors, highlighted by a 37-homer, 45-steal line across 135 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season. A poor spring training and the offseason acquisition of center fielder Dexter Fowler likely prevented Springer from breaking camp with the big club, but there's been some signs that a promotion could be forthcoming in the next few weeks. While Springer has continued to mash at Triple-A Oklahoma City as expected, perhaps what's more interesting is that he's been seeing the greater share of his starts in right field. The move from center to right suggests that the Astros could be eager to get his bat in the lineup at the major league level, so long as they can first ensure his defense in right is sound. The likes of Alex Presley (.139 batting average entering Tuesday), L.J. Hoes (.267), Robbie Grossman (.136) and Marc Krauss (.120) are offering little to no production at the corner outfield spots, and even the non-contending Astros can't justify throwing them out there every night. If available on waivers in leagues with sizeable bench spots, Springer is certainly worth stashing based on his potential alone.

Other recent recommendations: Devin Mesoraco, Adeiny Hechavarria, Aaron Harang, Josmil Pinto and Kelly Johnson
