Recommended Pickup

James Jones, OF, SEA -- The Mariners outfield has generally been a black hole of offensive production this season, but little of the blame lies with Jones, who has surpassed expectations since receiving his first call to the majors in early May. The 25-year-old has settled into either the leadoff or No. 2 spot in the lineup for the last couple of weeks, demonstrating excellent contact skills (.291 average) and speed (11-for-12 mark on steal attempts), with four stolen bases coming over the last two games. Jones doesn't supply much power in his 6-4, 200-pound frame (no homers in 151 at-bats), but his plus-speed, steady batting average and presence near the top of the order should make him a dependable three-category option. The likes of Endy Chavez, Cole Gillespie, and Stefen Romero probably aren't threats to steal at-bats from Jones, so look for the counting stats to continue to trickle in at a fairly smooth clip.
