Closer Watch

White Sox -- After closer Matt Lindstrom sprained his ankle while attempting to field a bunt Monday night, the White Sox determined he would need more than a few days to recover from the injury, prompting his placement on the disabled list. Manager Robin Ventura wouldn't shed light on who would replace him, though Jacob Petricka was afforded the first opportunity Monday when Lindstrom was forced to exit early. It's most likely that a committee approach would take hold, with all of Petricka, Daniel Webb, Scott Downs and Ronald Belisario factoring into the mix. At this point, none of the options hold much appeal to warrant rostering outside of deep or AL-only leagues, but Petricka has the best overall numbers of the quartet, with a 1.85 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.

Recommended Pickup

Stephen Drew, SS, BOS -- The long wait is finally over for Drew, who finally came to terms to a new deal with the Red Sox on Tuesday on a one-year, $10 million contract. Drew would have surely been signed sooner had he not had draft-pick compensation attached to him, but the Red Sox will have to pay such a price as the shortstop's most recent team. The Red Sox bypassed re-signing Drew over the winter due to the presence of Xander Bogaerts and Will Middlebrooks on the left side of the infield, but after Middlebrooks suffered a broken finger over the weekend, the team was in desperate need of some help. Though certainly not an elite option at shortstop after batting .253 with 13 homers last season, Drew probably rates as a better fantasy play than the middle infielders currently populating the waiver wire in deeper or AL-only leagues. There's a good chance fantasy owners who drafted Drew with the hope he'd be signed shortly after Opening Day have cut bait already, so he could be available as an immediate middle infield upgrade in certain formats. Just keep in mind that Drew will need about two weeks to work himself into game shape before joining the Red Sox, after he didn't participate in spring training.

Other Recent Recommendations: Rickie Weeks, Gordon Beckham, Ryan Vogelsong, Ichiro Suzuki, and Anthony Gose
