Closer Watch
Chicago Cubs -- Though his hold on the closer's job once appeared in jeopardy, Hector Rondon has done well to solidify his standing as the team's end-gamer. He worked a 1-2-3 inning Monday against the Rockies to claim his 13th save in 16 chances on the season, extending his streak of scoreless appearances to three games. Rondon saw his hold on the ninth-inning job tighten up even more with the news that Neil Ramirez, the team's top reliever this season, would require a trip to the DL due to a sore triceps.

Recommended Pickup
Brett Anderson, SP, COL -- The usual caveats of treading carefully with a Rockies pitcher still apply to Anderson, but since returning from a broken finger shortly before the All-Star break, he's provided a needed jolt atop the team's rotation. While making back-to-back starts against the Pirates in a home-and-home series in his most recent two turns, Anderson limited a respectable offense to one run on six hits and five walks over a total of 13.1 innings, with Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle praising the lefty as one of the best pitchers his unit has seen this season. It's probably unwise to expect Anderson to return to the dominant form he showed with the Athletics in 2010 (7-6, 2.80 ERA, 1.19 WHIP in 19 starts), but his career track generally suggests that, when healthy, he's an above-average hurler. If deployed in road matchups or against weaker lineups at Coors Field, Anderson's ERA and WHIP figures should remain rather stable for the most part, though he won't provide much in the way of strikeouts. Still, he'd make for a good target in NL-only and deeper mixed formats, and looks to be a nice daily play as well Wednesday, going against a middling Cubs squad at Wrigley Field.
