Closer Watch
Cubs - Perhaps the murkiest ninth-inning situation in MLB, the Cubs have seemingly trotted out a different reliever in save chances since Kyuji Fujikawa landed on the disabled list due to a sprained muscle in his right forearm. While the team appears to have settled on Kevin Gregg -- he's notched four of the Cubs' past five successful saves -- Fujikawa may return to the bullpen in the near future, barring a setback during Friday's side session or his subsequent rehab assignment. In the meantime, Carlos Marmol has thrown his hat in the team's closing ring as well, capturing the other save of late in which Gregg remained on the pine. The short-term prospects dictate Gregg will continue to garner the majority of the late-game opportunities, but Marmol could easily emerge as a factor, if Gregg at all falters.

Yuniesky Betancourt, 1B, MIL - What a journey for Yuni. Just last season, he endured a lengthy DL stint and a failed platoon situation at Kansas City, eventually being designated for assignment in early August. Nevertheless, he went a tear similar to the one he's experiencing at the moment, belting five homers to go with 27 RBI over a 26-game stretch last June. Following Tuesday's win, Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke announced that Betancourt would slot into the lineup as the primary first baseman when Aramis Ramirez (knee) is removed from the disabled list later in the week. Over 25 outings manning first and third base this season, Betancourt has racked up seven long balls, 22 RBI, 13 runs scored, and a mere 10 strikeouts in 86 at-bats, a run which could continue unabated until Corey Hart (knee) completes his own stay on the DL. Enjoy the ride, as it could come to a close at any time.
