Closer Watch

Diamondbacks - Nursing a sore right arm, Addison Reed wasn't used in a save situation Sunday, which instead went to Brad Ziegler. With a two-run lead in his back pocket, Ziegler was safe in allowing a leadoff homer, as he soon induced two groundouts and a strikeout to obtain his first save of the season. Meanwhile, Reed himself pitched five times in seven contests prior to Sunday's game, a span in which he yielded two runs on four hits and no walks, while striking out three in 4.2 innings. Both runs were via solo shots, bumping up his HR/9 to 2.54 on the year. If Reed's struggles continue, Sunday's development could portend a change in the existing late-inning pecking order.

Recommended Pickup

Danny Santana, CF, MIN - Upon his call-up in early May, Santana logged time at shortstop, but his success at the plate (8-for-his-first-19) spurred manager Ron Gardenhire to learn if the outfield was a viable option for the speedy 23-year-old. If the past seven games is any indication -- five starts in center and two as the designated hitter -- Santana is living up to the hype while batting leadoff. Moreover, he's still producing at the plate, slashing .370/.370/.519 with his first big league homer, seven RBI, two runs, and two steals across his past 27 at-bats. Gardenhire's search for a sparkplug at the top of the order has seemingly settled on Santana, who should be garnering more love in fantasy circles.
