This is a quick glimpse at the players set to hit the open market after the World Series. With a few notable exceptions (including Nick Castellanos, who is virtually certain to opt out of his deal), this list does not include those with opt outs, nor does it include those with team and/or player options.
Expect the list of notable free agents to grow as options are declined, players are non-tendered, opt out, etc. Keep in mind, too, that severals of these players will receive the qualifying offer.
Free agents can officially sign with new teams beginning five days after the conclusion of the World Series. However, we should expect the iceberg to move even more slowly this year. With the Associated Press and others reporting that the players and owners are unlikely reach a new Collective Bargaining Agreement before the current one expires Dec. 2, a work stoppage is possible. At the very least, there will likely be a freeze period for free agents.
