Closer Watch

Baltimore -- After Tommy Hunter pitched both of the previous two days, manager Buck Showalter turned to Darren O'Day for Thursday's save chance against the Rays, which the sidewinding righty converted successfully. He didn't notch the save without a little bit of a battle, however, yielding base hits to the first two batters he faced before coaxing a key double play to diminish the threat. Though O'Day owns a sparkling 0.69 ERA on the season, Hunter has pitched well enough to hold him off for save duties for now.

Recommended Pickup

Rougned Odor, 2B, TEX -- The Rangers surprised just about everybody by calling up not one but two of their prized infield prospects in Odor and Luis Sardinas on Thursday, but it's the former who should command most of the attention in fantasy leagues. Odor is just 20 years old, but has already shown advanced contact-hitting skills for his age, along with the ability to steal bases. While he's not nearly the caliber of a prospect Jurickson Profar was upon his promotion to the big leagues, Odor still has a chance to develop into one of the better middle infield players in the game once he hits his prime. A breakout probably won't fully materialize for Odor in his first exposure to big league pitching, but with Donnie Murphy and Josh Wilson out of the picture and Profar likely on the DL until June, the 20-year-old will at least get a shot at flashing his talent with regular at-bats. He makes for a good speculative pickup in AL-only or deeper formats (if available) at this time.
