DiJonai Carrington

Carrington played exclusively as a reserve in her 32 appearances last year, but she saw more looks from the floor and improved her three-point efficiency to see an uptick in her scoring average despite a slight decline in playing time. Overall, the 26-year-old averaged 8.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.2 minutes per game. Carrington generally saw consistent playing time, but she played under 15 minutes in half of her appearances last year and averaged just 3.6 points and 1.5 rebounds in 9.3 minutes per game during those matchups. She's made just three starts over her first three seasons in the WNBA but could compete for a starting role in 2024 after Tiffany Hayes announced her retirement. However, the Sun also brought Tiffany Mitchell and Moriah Jefferson in during the offseason. Carrington's role is slightly up in the air, but she's had consistent production over the past two seasons and could see her usage increase in 2024, especially if she can win a starting role to begin the regular season.

Carrington experienced an uptick in playing time during her second professional season in 2022 but still came off the bench in all but two of her 36 appearances. She averaged 6.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game, getting to the charity stripe at a reasonably high rate (4.8 free-throw attempts per 40 minutes; 26th in WNBA). The 25-year-old scored in double figures 14 times but wasn't exceptionally reliable from three-point range (30.6 percent) and didn't compile many ancillary stats, though she did have a nose for rebounds (3.1 per game). While it was encouraging to see Carrington's role increase slightly in 2022 after she averaged just 9.2 minutes per game as a rookie, she didn't produce in enough areas to warrant a look in many fantasy formats.

As a rookie last season, Carrington averaged 2.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 9.2 minutes per game. The 20th overall pick in the 2021 draft started one contest for the Sun last year, but her career-high 14 points came against the Liberty on Sept. 15 when she played 20 minutes for the only time all season. The second-year guard figures to compete with Kaila Charles for a rotational role behind the likes of Courtney Williams, Jasmine Thomas and Natisha Hiedeman.
