Brittney Griner

35-Year-Old CenterC
 Connecticut Sun  WNBA
2026 Fantasy Outlook
After 11 years in Phoenix, Griner joined Atlanta last season and averaged career lows nearly across the board, including 20.8 minutes, 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. The veteran center was an unrestricted free agent, and she elected to sign a contract with Connecticut. While once a force capable of garnering MVP votes, it's unclear how much she has left in the tank after she played a somewhat limited role in 2025. Griner will still be capable of providing decent production, but she could be limited throughout 2026 to keep her healthy for the playoffs. If that's the case, Griner will have diminished fantasy value, but given her upside when playing a major role, she should still be on managers' radars in the middle rounds of drafts. Finishes with 13 points in loss
CConnecticut Sun
May 8, 2026
Griner finished with 13 points (6-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-1 FT), six rebounds and two assists over 27 minutes in Friday's 106-75 loss to Connecticut.
ANALYSIS
Griner appeared in her first regular-season game with Connecticut. Although it wasn't the best showing of her career, it was a decent effort, considering the entire team struggled against a Liberty squad that had no trouble getting it done on both ends of the floor. The 35-year-old signed with the Sun heading into the 2026 campaign. While Griner's best days are likely behind her, she has room to have a better season than the one she had with the Dream in 2025.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
2022
Griner spent the first 11 seasons of her career in Phoenix but will don a new uniform in 2025 after signing with the Dream. She missed the first 10 games in 2024 due to a fractured toe but was productive upon her return, averaging 17.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 28.7 minutes per game. Griner was unavailable for the 2022 campaign while wrongfully detained in Russia and she's seen a slight decrease in playing time since returning to the hardwood, as her 2023 and 2024 minutes averages were her lowest marks since her rookie year in 2013. It certainly seems possible that the Dream will manage the 34-year-old's workload in 2025, especially since the team also acquired Brionna Jones during the offseason. However, Griner has remained a consistently productive fantasy option in recent years, and she should continue to be reliable in Atlanta.
Griner returned to action in 2023 after missing the previous campaign while wrongfully detained in Russia. The superstar center saw slight drops in every major statistical category, but that can likely be attributed to minute restrictions and the Mercury's overall lackluster play. Griner's 27.8 minutes per game last year were her fewest since her rookie campaign in 2013, but she'll likely return to a 30-plus-minute role in 2024, especially if Phoenix is competitive. Griner is technically an unrestricted free agent, but it doesn't sound like she'll be entertaining offers from other teams. When asked if she was planning on signing elsewhere during her exit interview, Griner said, "no, come on now...Phoenix is home, this is where I've been, me and my wife literally just got a place, so nah." When at her best, Griner has proven to be a consistent top-5 fantasy option, but managers can likely get her later in drafts due to looming question marks.
Griner spent the 2022 WNBA season wrongfully detained in Russia, but she was finally released in the offseason and is slated to rejoin the Mercury for the 2023 campaign. Griner averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.9 blocks while shooting 57.5 percent from the field in 2021 and has averaged north of 20 points per game in four of her last five WNBA seasons. Assuming the veteran center can return to her previous form, she should claim a starring role again for a Phoenix squad that will be without Skylar Diggins-Smith for at least part of 2023, likely making Griner even more of a fantasy factor. Griner is an elite fantasy option in both points and rotisserie leagues, but her value is boosted a bit more in points leagues because she doesn't get downgraded for a lack of steals and three-point production.
A perennial WNBA All-Star, Griner's 2021 season was no exception. Griner compiled 20.5 points, a career-best 9.5 rebounds and a league-leading 1.9 blocks per contest. She even slightly improved on limited attempts from deep, connecting on four of her nine tries. While Griner's talent would dictate her being among the top players in the league, she is currently detained in Russia. The situation has attracted international attention and it's still very much unclear when Griner may be allowed to return to the United States. As of mid-March, it's quite possible – if not likely – that Griner will be unavailable to begin the 2022 WNBA season.
