Dekkers took over for an ineffective Nolan Henderson with 5:22 remaining in the first quarter of the 36-17 loss to the Renegades in Week 1, completing 19 of 29 passes for 227 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and added three carries for 28 yards and a score.
ANALYSIS
Dekkers took a firm hold of the Gamblers' starting job with his performance, which may not have resulted in many points but did produce a much more cohesive passing attack than it had been under Henderson during his time in the game. Dekkers displayed some nice mobility in addition to showing strong command of the offense through the air, connecting with eight different targets overall. Dekkers showed some promise as a starter for Iowa State back in 2022 and then excelled at the JUCO level with Iowa Western two seasons later, so he'll be an interesting name to monitor for fantasy purposes heading into his first start at home against the Stallions on Sunday.
