Doumbia extended his contract with Frankfurt through 2029 back in March, and the loan now sends the 21-year-old center back to Cottbus, who recently secured promotion to the 2. Bundesliga, for the coming season. The German-Malian defender spent last season with Frankfurt's second team, making 25 appearances as they won promotion back to the Regionalliga Sudwest, and trained with the first team for large stretches while being named to the Bundesliga matchday squad seven times without making his debut. Sporting director Timmo Hardung said regular playing time at a high level is now the key next step in Doumbia's development.
