Szalai has returned to Hoffenheim after spending the last six months on loan at Pogon Szczecin.
The Hungarian defender spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Pogon Szczecin in the Polish Ekstraklasa, making 14 appearances, after spending the first half of the season on loan at Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig. As a 28-year-old defender who has won nearly 50 caps with the Hungary national team, Szalai should find a role in Hoffenheim's defensive line for the 2026/27 season even as a backup player and depth piece,
