After five consecutive finishes of 13th or worse, VeeKay found himself in a much better position in the Indianapolis 500, finishing sixth and leading eight laps. It was his best-ever finish in the 500 and came as the result of strategy calls that gave him strong track position by the end of the race. The IndyCar Series now heads to Detroit, where VeeKay has struggled in his career with an average finish of 19.7 in three starts.
