Wins Shocking Sao Paulo GP
Formula One
November 3, 2024
Verstappen has stormed to a remarkable victory in a frenetic Sao Paulo Grand Prix, the Dutchman climbing through the field from an original starting position of P17 to score his first race win since June amid changing weather conditions and huge drama along the way - which also saw Alpine score a double podium result, Formula1.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The race would take place in changing intervals of rain throughout and the grand prix would be oft interrupted due to many off-track excursions and crashes. Verstappen would charge from P17 on the starting grid to claim six positions on the opening lap alone. From there the reigning world champion would steadily pick off positions up to second place by lap 29. A red flag for a big crash on lap 32 would bring everyone to pit road and Verstappen would renew his assault on P1 after the resumption. On lap 42 he'd pass leader, Esteban Ocon, and run away to a 19-second victory down the stretch.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
After an overall dominant performance last season, Verstappen is expecting a repeat in 2023 after coming away with a Formula One record of 15 wins in a season and the undisputed title of World Champion. The RB18 proved to be no match for the rest of the grid as Verstappen repeatedly battled his way through the pack to finish first a whopping 65% of the time, earning 454 championship points by the conclusion of Abu Dhabi. The driver of the No. 1 Red Bull found no consistent competition with any of the other constructors and kept a firm grip on the championship standings following his only 2 DNFs of the season at Bahrain and Melbourne. Verstappen is truly the man to beat going into the 2023 season; drivers without a consistently reliable vehicle and discipline behind the wheel will find him an insurmountable opponent on track, unless Team Red Bull finds themselves facing a new, unforeseen challenge with the car this year.
